The earlier of Scarlatti’s two settings of the biblical story of Judith has been described as his finest oratorio, but the work could be seen as a sacred opera. The heroine seduces the general of the invading army Holofernes and beheads him with his own sword. The Festival Baroque Orchestra will be joined by five internationally renowned soloists.
